So......what exactly does it mean to be Vegan?
And what is a whole food, plant based diet?
A whole food, plant based diet is one that centres on whole, unrefined or very minimally refined plants. It’s made up of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds. Like a vegan diet, a whole food, plant based diet excludes all meat, fish, dairy products and eggs. However, it also steers clear of most refined and processed foods like refined white flours and grains, refined sugars and processed oils. Whole food and plant based are terms typically used to describe something that is made from whole plant foods that have not been refined in any way. (Reference: The Happy Pear: https://thehappypear.ie/the-difference-between-whole-food-plant-based-and-vegan/)
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet and/or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans (also known as strict vegetarians) refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable. Our Journey
I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.
It has taken us a few years to get to this point. For four years now, we
have been learning about what we consider to be important factors that
keep our bodies, our homes and our planet healthy.
In 2013, my father died from complications of COPD. One year later, my
mother-in-law died from an aggressive brain tumor. When my mother
found a lump in her breast not six months later, this news brought me to
my knees.
My Mom has always been wary of Western medicine and looked for
natural ways of dealing with her health issues. Now, faced with a life and
death situation, there were discussions around the wisdom of continuing
to pursue this path or the possibility of incorporating chemotherapy into
the mix. There was a lot of fear and emotional turmoil at this point. But,
four years later, Heide is still pursuing a path outside conventional
Western medicine based on surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Perhaps the best outcome from all of this is that it brought about a
profound change in lifestyle for our entire family. These four years have
seen a steady move toward a completely plant-based life. It didn’t
happen all at once - we’re not there yet!
Our goal for this website is to provide a platform where we can not only
share our journey, but more importantly, provide a conduit for the
information and inspiration the many doctors, educators, activists and
survivors have taught us.
We look forward to connecting with like-minded people who share our
passion for learning about living a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle.
We will post updates on our blog page.

Is This Site For You?
Our goal is to provide a platform for sharing information about plant based living. We see our community as those who want to explore this lifestyle. This site is not a forum for discussing the pros and cons of plant based living but rather one that inspires those who are considering adopting all or part of this philosophy.
